Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park

November 2014.  Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park in New Port Richey, Florida.

We stumbled across two Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnakes on the trail.  We didn't have any inkling what species they were but I was sure that they were venomous based on their color and pattern (but mostly on a gut feeling ... haha!)

First Rattler:

Second Rattler:

Brontë behaved very well during her first snake encounter.  She stayed when asked to and didn't go bonkers.  She watched it silently.

We also spotted a Gopher Tortoise.

On our way home, we sighted a couple of Sandhill Cranes feeding by the road.
